It is Time to Return!

After an absence of 3 years, Janet and I look forward to returning to our special place – St John, USVI. The island lives deep inside both of us, and through our many visits to St John it has impacted us and helped to form who we are today. Some may think returning to the same place puts you in a rut - Not Us! The smallest island of the USVI is the one place that we always return for relaxation and to recharge our bodies and souls.

Devastated by Hurricane Irma St. Johnians have endured much in recent months, but they are keenly focused on returning to normal. As Jenn, a local blogger, wrote a few weeks ago in News of St John, “St. John is open for business. We may be a tad bent, but we are nowhere near broken. Please visit us soon if you can.” And that is exactly what we are going to do!

One never forgets the first time they stand at the overlook and view Trunk Bay.

For us it was April 1979, and though the camera did not capture the image that remains in our minds it does verify that the island is timeless. For those who have visited St John they know rainbows always end in the beautiful blue water that surround the island.

Yes, we understand that some things will be different or maybe even gone now, but we are confident the vitality of the people, the beauty of the island, and the memories we have tucked away will nourish our continuing love for the island.

We have been counting the days to our return and are excited by the daily reports being posted that the healing continues with more restaurants, stores, and park facilities operating once again. Hopefully, the recent fire at the power substation will not impact our return too much. We expect there will be some power disruption with rolling outages as the island continues to heal, and we will call those beach time!

Here is our plan - Return, Relax, and Recharge on beautiful St John, USVI!

Hope you will Follow Along!
